Electronic forklift scales determine weight by monitoring pressure changes in the hydraulic cylinder during the lifting of the boom. Two pressure sensors-installed on the cylinder's oil supply and return lines-measure the pressure while the system adjusts for speed; the onboard instrument's central processor then automatically performs calculations to derive the weight, which is displayed on the screen.
During the lifting process, the pressure sensors transmit signals to the computer for data conversion and processing. Once the vehicle has scooped up the load and the boom retracts to its starting position, the scale immediately displays the cargo's weight. When the load is being discharged, the screen shows the accumulated weight; upon the bucket's return to the starting position, the screen displays the total accumulated weight of the cargo.
